I just opened my favorite ISO Linux download site distrowatch.com. In last few years, Ubuntu has always been the top number one based on page hit ranking. But then shifted to Linux Mint after. And incredibly now Ubuntu re-shifted by Mageia Linux. So Ubuntu is now no longer being number one. Is this a sign of the falling popularity of Ubuntu? And what causes it?
According to my analysis, Ubuntu unity is the main cause of decreasing popularity among users of Ubuntu Linux. Inconvenience and disappointment to the Unity user turns very large effect. Linux Mint which remains faithful to use interface and Cinnamon MATE more interesting than Unity. Cinnamon and Mate is much easier and convenient to use than Unity. And the same strategy has been very well adopted by Mageia Linux. Magiea has a simple, and easy to use user interface. Compared to Ubuntu, both Mageia and Linux Mint is more user oriented Linux distro. Ubuntu has been dreaming to far from user’s needs.
