FreeNAS Tutorial - How to setup a new hard drive to the Free NAS

In FreeNAS tutorial we will discuss how to add a new hard disk to FreeNAS. There are several steps that need to be considered when you want to add a new hard drive to FreeNAS. See how we add new hard disk to our FreeNAS Server below.

I assume FreeNAS is configured and running well. Open FreeNAS web GUI. Usually it can be done by simply type the server ip address on Firefox or other browser. For example: http://192.168.1.10.

Then, go to Storage tab and press Volume Manager to add new hard disk. At this point, you must plug your hard disk to the physical server.

Next, you will see the Volume Manager open up and you should see your hard disk is listed there. If not, you have to check if your new disk is connected to the computer correctly.

Click on your new disk and provide a unique name for the Volume name. Select Filesystem type (UFS or ZFS). You can specify custom path if you want. If not, it will be listed under /mnt directory. Press Add Volume when you are ready
