Step by step to install FreeNAS Server

FreeNAS is a lightweight Linux distribution based on FreeBSD Linux that is good for a small server on your network (home or office). The size is pretty small (fit into USB disk) and its pretty easy to configure using built in web management console. This quick tutorial will show you how to install FreeNAS server.

Step by step to install FreeNAS Server

1. Boot your server using FreeNAS CD. You can download and burn the FreeNAS ISO from this link

2. Highlight the first option (Install/Upgrade) from the installation menu. Use keyboard up and down arrow to select between options.

3. Select your hard drive for installation. If you have more than one disk, it will be listed on this page. Make sure you select the correct disk.

3. On the next page select No if this is your firs installation.

4. Press Yes to proceed the installation.

Reboot your server when finished. You will see the welcome page on your server like this one below. You can see the IP address where you can access the FreeNAS server management console via web browser.

Now open web browser from other computer and type the web user interface shown on above step. You can start managing your FreeNAS Server from there
