Handbrake is a popular and powerful video transcoder for Linux. With this tool you can convert your DVD movie into other video format such as MP4 or MKV. Handbrake comes with a simple GUI front end.
If you are running Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, you may install Handbrake using the following steps. I am using handbrake package for Precise Pangolin but it works on Raring Ringtail as well.
How to install Handbrake on Ubuntu 13.04
Open Terminal and paste this command to download Handbrake DEB package
Then, install it using command
sudo dpkg -i handbrake-gtk_0.9.8ppa1~precise1_i386.deb
sudo apt-get -f install

For 64-bit users, go for this instead:
wget https://launchpad.net/~stebbins/+archive/handbrake-releases/+files/handbrake-cli_0.9.8%2Bppa1%7Equantal1_amd64.deb
or browse through the available options here:
