This Ubuntu tutorial will show you how to Install Cairo Dock on Ubuntu 12.10. Here I will show you how to install Cairo Dock 3.0.2 (when this post is written) using official repository. We can then easily upgrade to any newer version of Cairo Dock in the future. Cairo Dock is a pretty launcher set that provides a better way to access applications and opened windows on Ubuntu 12.10. 
The aim of this tutorial is to Install Cairo Dock on Ubuntu 12.10 via repository. 

Step to Install Cairo Dock on Ubuntu 12.10

  • Execute the following commands on Ubuntu 12.10 Terminal
echo "deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/glxdock/repository/ubuntu $(lsb_release -sc) cairo-dock" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
wget -q http://download.tuxfamily.org/glxdock/repository/cairo-dock.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install cairo-dock cairo-dock-plug-ins
  • Once finished, you can go to Dash > Cairo Dock with OpenGL (if your card supports OpenGL feature or Cairo Dock without OpenGL if you have older graphic card
  • Now you should see the Cairo Dock shown on the bottom of your screen. You can then configure it to match your needs.
