This tutorial will show you How to use Smartfren Andro as Modem on Fedora 17. Smartfren Andro is a low en Android smartphone which uses the latest EVDO technology. This Android phone can be used as an Internet modem on Fedora Linux easily. No drivers needed to set up this Smartfren Andro as a modem on Fedora Linux.
The aim of this tutorial is to set up and configure Smartfren Andro as a Modem on Fedora. I am using Fedora 17 x86_64 edition on my ThinkPad E125 notebook series.

How to use Smartfren Andro as Modem on Fedora 17

Connect Smartfren Andro to the laptop or PC using USB cable. Then, on the Smartfren Andro, go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Tethering & Portable hotspot. Then check on the USB tethering to activate this USB Tethering feature. Then, automatically, Fedora 17 will recognize and connect your Android phone via Ethernet. The IP address will assigned automatically. Then, activate the data connection on the Android phone and we can start browsing the internet on our PC or Laptop running Fedora 17.
I haven't tried this method on other Linux distribution or other Android phones but theoretically, this method should works on other Android devices and Linux Distribution.
